Electrical performance parameters of connector

The electrical performance parameters of the connector mainly include: rated current, contact resistance, voltage resistance, insulation resistance, etc.
1. Rated current: also known as working current, refers to the current that the electrical equipment can work continuously for a long time under rated environmental conditions. Generally, the working current of the equipment should not exceed the rated current of the connector. If it is necessary to transmit large current, considering the factors such as contact heating, it is also necessary to meet the rated current requirements through the thermal design of the connector.
2. Contact resistance: the resistance generated when the current flows through the contact surface of the contact. The magnitude of the contact resistance will affect the transmission characteristics of the electrical equipment signal.
The main factors affecting contact resistance are: surface resistivity of contact material, contact pressure, contact area, contact shape, temperature, etc.
3. Withstand voltage: the critical voltage between the contacts of the connector and between the contacts and the shell body that can withstand within the specified time is higher than the rated working voltage without breakdown, so as to determine the correctness of the insulation material, insulation spacing, insulation structure, and check the defects of the parts. The ability of the connector to withstand the instantaneous overvoltage caused by the opening, closing, surge and similar phenomena can be checked by this indicator.

The main factors affecting the withstand voltage are: contact clearance, creepage distance and geometry, insulator material properties and geometry, ambient temperature, humidity and atmospheric pressure.
4. Insulation resistance: refers to the resistance value that is caused by applying DC voltage to the insulation part of the connector, so as to produce leakage current on the surface or inside of the insulation part. If the insulation resistance value is low, it may form a feedback circuit, increase power loss, cause interference, etc. The excessive leakage current can produce heat or DC electrolysis and damage the insulation, cause short circuit and endanger the safety.
The main factors that affect the insulation resistance are temperature, humidity, pollution, oxidation and the properties of the material itself. For example, the volume resistivity of the insulation material determines the insulation resistance.
